Facilitated "Whole-Team" Conversations

As the leader of a team or organization, there are times when the best course of action is to pause, assess and see how to move forward.

Some of these moments are planned.

Like an annual board or leadership retreat,
or a strategic planning event.

At other times, challenges, issues, changes or crises arise which need to be addressed ... for example:

  • interpersonal issues disrupting meetings, work flow or staff engagement
  • tension among leadership team or staff - a lack of unity or mutual respect
  • high turnover of staff or leadership - "good people" leaving - broad level of dissatisfaction
  • transition of top leadership
  • lack of accountability
  • dysfunctional or toxic culture
  • merger of people from different organizational cultures
  • yearning to enhance organizational culture
  • implementation of new governance structure

Sometimes these issues or planned events can be handled directly by the leadership team or board.

But there are limitations to working "inside the system."

More often than not, an outside facilitator can bring many advantages.

At Basileia, we are experts in designing, planning, implementing and facilitating the process that leads to "conversations that matter."

We design and facilitate conversations that are critical for team or organizational success through a process that enhances unity and connection among the group while at the same time advances the group towards its strategic goals and initiatives.

When all voices can be heard and considered, your team will have collective clarity about what is working well, and what needs attention.

Further, when each member of the team sees the collective perspective of the "current reality" and the "desired future," then the wisdom of the group can be harnessed to chart the path ahead.

Our approach is not to solve current issues, but to acknowledge them, and bring full focus on how to create the "desired future."

By creating "whole-team" or "multi-stakeholder" conversations, you not only benefit from multiple perspectives and create greater unity, you also get "build-in" and support across the team or organization for the new initiatives that arise.

Outline of elements in typical , full-scale Facilitation Process
  • Project Purpose & Goals - meeting with leader of group
  • Planning - meeting(s) to clarify goals, logistics, roles
  • Launch - live meeting to introduce project to participants
  • Discovery - e.g. assessments, interviews, review relevant company data, tour facilities, meet staff, observe meetings
  • Design - design facilitated event(s) based on key themes that emerge from Discovery and to meet goals of project
  • Facilitation - prep for and facilitate event(s)
  • Follow-up and Next Actions - meeting after the event(s)

What makes Gregg's facilitations so successful?
  • He creates an environment where participants can trust that “all voices are heard” and “everyone’s needs matter.”
  • He harvests conflict within the team to create connection around what matters to the individuals involved and to the team and organization as a whole.
  • Embedded training provides participants with new tools and new ways of thinking.
  • Pre-event elements initiate the conversations weeks before the in-person event, stimulating early engagement and preparation so that participants “hit the ground running” when the in-person event begins.
  • All elements of the project are designed to link together and build upon the prior elements to achieve the project outcomes.
  • Sessions are designed to be highly interactive, using a wide array of formats for self-reflection and structured conversations within pairs, small groups and large groups.
  • Technology is leveraged when beneficial to provide collaborative tools such as video conferencing, webcasts and collaborative forums.
